The Allstruder, an open-source syringe extruder developed by the Shiwarski Tissue Engineering Lab, was recently featured by Scienmag for its potential to make 3D biofabrication more accessible and affordable.
Built for approximately $51, the Allstruder can transform a wide range of commercially available 3D printers into versatile extrusion-based biofabrication platforms. Its modular, open-source design supports printing with hydrogels, bioinks, ceramics, pastes, and other materials, providing researchers with an affordable and adaptable alternative to specialized commercial systems.
The feature highlights the Allstruder’s broader goal: lowering the barrier to entry for biofabrication and enabling researchers, educators, and makers to build, modify, and share their own printing tools.
